Based on this announcement:

  • The day of Arafa will be on Monday 12th Sep 2016.
  • The day of Eid-ul-Adha will be on Tuesday 13th Sep 2016.

Wednesday 6th July, 2016 will be the 1st of Shawwal-ul-Mukarram, 1437 Hijri

based on the points below:

  1. If the numerous sightings in Fiji and Wellington bring you satisfaction (itminan) that the moon has been validly sighted, then it is Eid for you tomorrow.
  2. If such a witnessing has not given you satisfaction, then you should travel (become a musafir), eat something, and come back and pray Salat Eid Raja’an.
  3. If you did not get satisfaction from the witnessings and you cannot travel..then you must fast tomorrow.

The Moon-Sighting Committee was established in 2014 by the Shia Muslim Scholars of New Zealand. It offers its services to the believers every month for the crescent.

The Committee announces the beginning of the lunar months based on crescent moon sighting verdict of the jurist who is most followed on a worldwide basis (Marje’ al-ta’efah), Ayatollah Sayyid Ali al-Sistani and Ayatullah Sayyid Ali Khamenei.
